Post-Holiday Detox: Fig and Maple Overnight Oats – with Nutracleanse

These overnight oats represent so many great choices for the New Year. For one, preparing a hearty breakfast the night before will ensure that you don’t miss the most important meal of the day, even when you’re on the fly. In fact, I’ve been known to munch on my mason jar full of overnight oats well into the morning, keeping me full all the way until lunch. It’s the perfect way to steer away from the sweet treats that become a hallmark of the holiday season. The addition of the Nutracleanse adds a fibre boost that will allow you to begin detoxing from the strain that added sugars and heavy meals have on your body at this time of year. These oats also contain half of your daily dose of probiotics, found in the locally sourced coconut kefir, to keep your gut flora happy and healthy. The most important part, though, is that despite the fact that this breakfast hits all the nutritional high points, the figs, cacao nibs and infused maple syrup make this jar of wholesomeness feel positively indulgent.

1/2 cup rolled oats

1/3 cup Nutracleanse

1 tablespoon cacao nibs

2 tablespoons dried fruit & nuts of your choice (pepitas or goji berries would pack a powerful punch here!)

1 teaspoon hemp hearts

Pinch salt

Dash cardamom

2-3 tablespoons Vanilla, Cinnamon and Star Anise Pure Infused Maple Syrup

1 tablespoon Cultured Coconut Artisanal Kefir

Top with non-dairy milk of choice (i.e.: almond, cashew or coconut)

1-2 fresh figs, quartered

Add all the dry ingredients to a mason jar or similar sealed container. Pour in the maple syrup and kefir, and then top off the remaining space in the jar with a non-dairy milk of your choice. Shake thoroughly and place in the refrigerator overnight. Slice and add fresh figs in the morning, and top with an extra drizzle of maple syrup, if desired.
